Physical Education

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),

Hello, my name is Mr. Dean and I will be your son or daughter’s Physical Education teacher.  During this school year our students will be challenged with a variety of movement forms, motor skills and manipulative skills while holding them to high expectations regarding their quality of work and behavior management.

So that you are familiar with my professional background, some of my accomplishments include the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Education, an Illinois State Board of Education endorsement in Physical Education, two national personal training certifications, two group exercise certifications, a certification in step aerobics, floor aerobics, spinning (indoor cycling), healthy lifestyle principles, and core (stability ball) exercise. I am currently working on my Master of Science in Education Degree at Chicago State University. I am also the Teacher/Instructor of Health and Wellness for Project Chance at The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) which I have held this title since 2005.

I am the Athletic Director for Carnegie Elementary and I have held this position simultaneously with Teaching for the past two years. I coach a variety of sports for Carnegie and under my leadership we have accomplished these achievements over the past two years:

Boys/Girls Track and Field: 1st Place City Champions, 2ndPlace City Championship and 2 Regional Championships. Coaches: Mr. B. Dean, Mr. T. Lewis and Ms. C. Newton

Girls/Boys Cheerleading: Four 2nd Place City Championships and 4 Regional Championships. Coaches: Ms. F. Morgan and Ms. L. Morgan

Boys/ Basketball: 2nd Place City Championship and Regional Champions. Coaches: Mr. R. Roberson and Mr. S. Flowers

Girls/ Basketball: Two 2nd Place Regional Championships, Two Area 15 Championships. Coaches: Mr. B. Dean, Mr. G. Martin and Ms. A. Wilson.

Boys/ Softball: Area 15 Champions Coaches: Mr. S. Flowers and Mr. B. Dean

Boys/ Flag Football: Area 15 Championship Game, 6-0 Regular Season Champions. Coaches: Mr. B. Dean and Mr. T. Lewis

Girls/ Double Dutch: 2nd Place Regional Championships, Area 15 Champions. Coaches: MS.H. Johnson and Mrs. S. Roberson.

Girls/ Volleyball: Area 15 Champions

Considering our expectations are so high for your son or daughter, I can only say that I strive to meet that same achievement. I plan to work closely with the assigned classroom teacher, and to continually implement a physical education program that has an unmatched reputation for excellence in educating students about the importance of physical activity and health. My intentions will be to prevent and combat childhood obesity, heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure so that your child can enjoy a healthy lifetime of sport, recreation and rich leisure.

I would expect all of our students to be prepared for physical education class. Please see Ms. Pope in the main office to purchase P.E uniforms. One third of your child’s grade will consist of being dressed for class; one third will be based on participation, and the final portion will be based on good sportsmanship and maintaining a positive attitude. I am looking forward to a rewarding and successful school year.

Sincerely,
Mr. Brian K. Dean

5th - 8th Grade students ! Fall Season Sports Try-Outs

Mr. Dean’s Agenda

Physical Education Uniform

  • All Kindergarden-8Th grade students are required to wear an official Andrew Carnegie short set or sweat suit during physical education class.
  • Short sets are $20, and sweat suits are $30. * All sets include a top and a bottom; however, they may not be sold separately, because they are ordered as sets.
  • Bulk Orders are placed monthly and require a two to three week turn-around. * When orders arrive they will be distributed by Mr. Dean. This mass distribution will notify EVERYONE UNIFORMS ARE IN; so there is no reason to ask Mr. Dean EVERYDAY!
  • Students may purchase uniforms daily before and after school from Mr. Dean

2011-2012 Athletic Programs

  • Students will be required to pay a $20 try-out fee for each season of sports. This one $20 will cover multiple sports during that SEASON.
  • The reason for this is because many students left outstanding balances; and bus’ and referee fees had to be picked up by the school. This will ensure that all fees will have already been collected from all athletes.
  • If a student misses tryouts they cannot play on the desired team.

Fall Sports
