Carnegie

Spanish 5th - 8th

Estimados Parents and Guardians,

¡Bienvendios al año escolar 2011-2012! My name is Señorita Fuller and this is my first year here at Andrew Carnegie Elementary. I am thrilled to have the privilege to work with your child in class this school year. I recently returned from living abroad in Salamanca, Spain where I had the opportunity to fully immerse myself in the Spanish culture and language. I look forward to sharing these experiences with your sons and daughters in hopes of inspiring them to pursue learning beyond the classroom.

Students will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with classmates as well as independently on projects to simulate real life scenarios where they need to practice and apply their Spanish language skills. Learning a foreign language for your child means they will be able to further engage in the diverse world around them and more specifically they will have access to more jobs, be able to interact and converse with community members and travel abroad to Spanish-speaking countries.

As a class today, we set expectations for how we want Spanish class to run this year. In order to accomplish our big classroom goal of achieving 80% mastery on skills based unit tests, both the students and I will be held accountable to these high expectations. There will be a “no tolerance” policy for misbehavior and all students should follow the class motto: Me Respeto. Te Respeto. Respeto el mundo. The following sequence will take place in response to misbehaviors:

1. Verbal warning
2. Seat change or second verbal warning
3. Discipline write up 1 and call home
4. Discipline write up 2 and call home
5. Detention and call home
6. Conference with parent, student, and teacher

I value parent participation and feedback regarding expectations and concerns that you may have for your student.  I will be contacting parents throughout the year to let you know firsthand how your student is progressing in my classroom.  I believe that it is vital for teachers and parents to become allies when it concerns the benefit of the student. With that being said, please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, comments or concerns at the phone number or email address below.

Mil Gracias,
Señorita Fuller
