Dear Kindergarten Families,

I would like to take this time and introduce myself.  My name is Sabrina Alford and I am honored to be your child's teachers for this 2011-2012 school year.  I have been teaching here in the Primary Department at Andrew Carnegie Elementary School for 11 years.  During that time I have taught Kindergarten for 4 years and have taught in the Computer Lab for 7 years.  I received my Degree from Loyola University, Chicago and a Masters in School Technology from Loyola University and I have a love for teaching.

This week your child will complete one of the most important milestones of his or her life – the first day of school! I am looking forward to working with you and your child in reaching his or her full potential. We will have many wonderful experiences & opportunities to learn & grow in the days ahead.

I believe that communication is the key to a great parent-teacher relationship.  I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can send me a note, email me at salford@cps.edu, or call me at (773) 535-0530 Ext. 16239.  This extension will ring directly to the room.  For those of you who are computer savvy, you can also view information on http://new.schoolnotes.com
I will also do my part by sending out a newsletter each week to update you on what we have been doing in class as well as things that are up coming. For individual concerns, I will contact you by phone, send a note home, or email you (if email is provided).

Please feel free to participate in your child’s Kindergarten year as much as you are able. Helping hands are always needed, whether it is reading a story to the class, helping with field trips or class parties, or any other participation that will greatly enrich our class experience.

I am looking forward to a wonderful and exciting year with you and your child!

Sincerely,
Sabrina Alford

Supply List 2011/12

Your child should come to school the first day prepared with all of the following items (Please be sure their NAME is on all their supplies):

1 SOFT pencil bag for their items

  2 packs of printer paper

2 boxes of gallon and quart size Ziploc baggies

  2 boxes of Band-Aids

  3 boxes of facial tissue

  3 rolls of paper towels

3 bottles of waterless hand sanitizer

  2 bottles of soap

  3 containers of baby wipes

A complete change of clothes (in case of an accident)

SEVERAL SHARPENED pencils.  If possible, try to find the fat pencils (Pencils for beginners.  They are better for little hands to hold.   Please no markers, colored pencils, or small pencil sharpeners!

2 glue STICKS (no liquid glue)

  1 pair of scissors

A classroom binder is required for all Neighborhood Kindergarten students.  The cost is $5.00. (Money is due at the end of the September) The teacher will supply this binder.

We collect ALL the supplies & hand them out as needed.

It would be helpful for the children to have supplies at home as well for their homework.  Remember to write your child’s name on everything including their clothes & ties. Thank you!

Note:  If your child has asthma, and they have the pump with them, please write their name on the pump as well.
